Stream Hatchet Dictionary
When working with data analytics, it’s easy to get lost in all of the jargon that comes with the category. We’ve decided to put together a bit of a dictionary to define some of the terms for ease of use.
VIEWERSHIP
CCV: Concurrent Viewers
The active audience during a specific time frame of a livestream. Displays the size of an audience viewing the content.
AVG CCV: Average Concurrent Viewers
Refers to the average audience size throughout a livestream. Provides insight into prolonged interest in the content
Peak CCV: Peak Concurrent Viewers
Represents the maximum number of concurrent viewers during a livestream. Provides insight into the most popular moment of a livestream event, and thus the most engaging.
Hours Watched
The total time combined users collectively streamed an event. Shows the amount of content consumed by the audience. Higher numbers equate to higher levels of interest.
AMA: Average Minute Audience
The average viewership that a live streaming broadcast receives + 24 hours for rebroadcast. This metric is achieved by dividing the total minutes watched by the airtime of a broadcast, and should be used to qualify sponsorship of esports and game streaming content.
ENGAGEMENT
New Views
The total number of New Viewers (clicked into a channel and watched X amount of content on a streaming distributor) gained over a period X. Can be used to indicate interest in a channel, however should not be confused with Unique Viewers.
Followers
The number of Twitch users who have opted to receive updates every time a channel goes live. Does not require payment. Represents prolonged interest in the channel and its content.
Subscribers
Paid-followers that commit a subscription to a specific channel. Twitch recently added the Twitch Prime subscription which enables viewers to link an Amazon account, and gift $5.00 to a specific channel for a month long period.
QUALITATIVE
Language
The language broadcasted on a channel. Represents a piece of demographic data related to the engaged audience of a streaming platform.
Mature
Where the content contained within a channel contains content that might be inappropriate for some users. Violence, drug and alcohol use, sexual themes, vulgarities. Provides context into the content created by a channel.
Primary Game
The most commonly played game title on a channel. Provides context into the content created by a channel.
Share
Represents the percentage of viewers on a streaming platform engaging with specific content. Equates to the influence a channel has over the entire streaming platform as a percentage.
Streaming Platforms
Refers to either which platform was utilized to create the content (PC, Xbox, PS4, etc.) or which platform hosted the live stream (Twitch, YouTube Gaming, Mixer, Smashcast, Facebook, Periscope). Provides context into the most popular streaming devices and services.
Unique Channels
The number of active channels broadcasting their own content. Does not include channels hosting other channels. Displays the total number of users on a streaming platform given set parameters.
